EDI-Net – The Energy Data Innovation Network; using smart meter data, local campaigns and networking to increase the capacity of public authorities to implement sustainable energy policies.

EDI-Net will increase the capacity of EU public authorities to act quickly and decisively through increased provision of the right amount of intelligible information. This will be accomplished through training and the exchange of public authorities’ experiences, as well as through the provision of tools and support for them to implement and monitor their sustainable energy plans.

EDI-Net moves beyond the traditional technical energy manager approach to also engage with decision makers, finance managers and building users. EDI-Net aims to make energy and water information more ‘visible’ and ‘exciting’ for building users, and will use an online forum to spread knowledge and facilitate the exchange of experience and best practice through peer to peer education.

It is recognised that smart meter data, by itself, will not implement sustainable energy policy. However, when combined with an online discussion forum, local campaigns, awareness raising and peer to peer knowledge transfer, it can achieve savings of between 5 and 15 percent; which should translate to at least 16 GWh p.a., worth over €1.5m.
